As much as you guys are pushing for Dust to succeed, we are too. For you guys, profit and revenue is the motivation. But for us, it is something more than meaningless pub matches and gameplay associated with the other shooters that are currently on the market. We all believe Dust's concept...which is why we were so excited when this new shooter was revealed to us.
I, also totally understand that you guys have built a great MMO in Eve and are now venturing in the fps market for the first time. But at this point, I'm thinking that it may be best to take a back seat on this one. I have no idea who's in charge of Dust gameplay design and who is actually involved other than hearsay. I heard that you guys have some ex-MAG devs there and some BF3/DICE guys as well. If that is true, maybe they should be in charge of the actual gameplay mechanic design and you guys remain in charge of the rpg side of dust. You guys have done a great job as far as skill progression is concerned and the rpg side is brilliant. But as far as gameplay mechanics and "fun factor" of Dust......Dust is lacking. MAG's gameplay is awesome and they were the first to really touch massive multiplayer action on the console. And you do have a great deal of fun playing BF3. Plus, with those games, the controls and movements are fluid and smooth. Dust is having a hard time with creating a smooth gameplay....it is most obvious in Uprising. Someone mentioned that Battlefield has the vehicle fps market in a chokehold and I am inclined to agree. So, why not let the MAG/BF guys take control and make those necessary changes.
I am not asking that Dust be rehauled and that you create a BF or MAG knockoff. You guys already have the basic idea of what you want to be. But just let them develop it. Supervise the direction, but let them take the reigns of actually putting it together.
Again, I really want this game to succeed....I am a true Dust fan and I really support the game. You can confirm this by looking up my ID and check for the amount of merc packs I've already purchased :D. You guys aren't going to launch a full marketing campaign because you want to rely on word-of-mouth. So, you are basically leaving it up to us....but you have to give us something that we can really push. I have at least 15 guys in my clan, RND, that I've been trying to get them to play and be active. I am missing some of our best killers because Dust haven't grabbed them. And I've gotten others to tolerate the game just because they want to game with us. But comraderie will only keep them so long and I can't even get those other guys to touch Dust. Do you see my point?
So, my thing is this.......you guys are doing a great job as far as the rpg side is concerned but the gameplay feel and mechanics needs looking after. This is my heart to heart plead with you guys. It is halftime and Dust is down 28-7....you need a game changer.

The core of the game is already there in all it's sub 30 FPS glory.
It's cooked. Unless the engine is re-written, don't expect any massive changes.
Well, the movements were better in the last build so they can at least go back to that. |

HowDidThatTaste wrote:Very well said. Hopefully PC brings some new action? But I'm afraid it is about new weapons and the same old tired maps.
It will bring new action but not guarantee a slew of new players. I cant even go to guys I know and tell them that the game is awesome now. Graphically?..sure but the sluggish movements are at its worst |

SoTa of PoP wrote:In most cases for FPS - the launching build is it. Only tweaks happen from there.
But we can expect a lot more from CCP - the problem is... it takes an entire generation of games to get it. By the time they fixed dust open world FPS MMOs will be out on consoles, effectively killing CCP's edge of doing something new.
The only thing DUST will have is consumable suits before this game stops sucking.
This is it boys - they launched with this build. This is the game they desired and saw effective enough to take the beta tag off. And now I've lost almost all faith in CCP over it.
Honestly, the build really isn't bad. They have made some changes to skill points and gear that I don't agree with but that's not a big deal. I would just have to accept it. We hate it because we've been accustomed to certain things but a new player will be totally fine with it.
Everything is pretty much ok except to the way that the game feels and, for the nth time, the aiming system sucks. If they can make the movement more smooth and revert the aim back to Chromosome, then it will be fine.
I was really expecting 24v24 this build. Because I think adding an additional 8 players to each side will increase carnage and make the game more fun. 24v24 should really be available next week at launch because they have been promising that they are going to start with 24v24 battles for a few years now.
But seriously...if they roll back the aiming system and, for the nth time, make movements smooth (would be better if they slightly increase movement speed as well)...then this game would be formidable. |

bolsh lee wrote:Exactly, I can live with a lot of this build besides the aim mechanics, and I agree with Dubbs even though I have never played MAG through the videos and stories Ive heard from MAG players, it seems like there is a lot more to the matches besides cap and defend which sure seems like it would give a more open world feel then Dust has provided this far... Even with planetary conquest, I can't see getting anymore excited besides bragging rights.. The way Dust matches are now even with the roll back of the aim mechanics, sure its competitive but there just really isn't much to the game types... By CCP changing the niche of every class (Eg: The nerfs for more CQC, taking out supply depots and limiting Equipment slots to only logistics) I'm afraid this is their way of trying to "add" flavor to the stale game type ? It sure seems like the easiest way to do it with out actually adding any content.. Someone needs to take a back seat at CCP because like many have said before this does not feel like a "Launch build", more like a precursor to something great, and seeing how EVE has grown throughout the 10yrs, I hope this is the case.. Even though they aren't in the same market "EVE CCP" has been good on learning from their mistakes lets just hope "Dust CCP" will see the light and start play testing and actually listening to their community...
Don't want to turn this into a MAG discussion here but it was pretty much the same..game in and game out. There were only 3 maps to play on for each mode and there were only 3 modes (to start). But most players played their favorite mode, exclusively. But you would play for hours because there would be so much carnage because battles were 32v32. And the gameplay mechanics were on point.
I'm not worried about the lack of modes much because I expect CCP to add more with the biannual updates each year. But the feel of the gameplay must be paid attention to. Everyone on the Dust project needs to be stop what they are doing and focus on the gameplay feel. Stop worrying about skill trees, and suits, etc and just concentrate on improving the "smoothness" of the game and bring back Chromosone's aiming system. |

Thanks to this absolutely ****** build - things are now damn near impossible. If you're not hating it like I am - it just means CCP didn't nuke your weapon and you have nothing to honestly cry about.
I - on the other hand - have plenty.
Things like rolling back the nerf to range and damage of the HMG and slightly increasing the base health on the heavy suit are pretty easy and quick fixes that CCP can do to help heavies, plus it only affects a relatively small percentage of players. Things like fixing the movement and aim system is something that is probably going to take time, and that's something CCP doesn't really have so they need to get to work on quickly, plus it affects basically everyone. I went on my heavy alt (6mil SP) today and it was pretty bad, but it still didn't feel as bad as on my main (10mil SP) needing literally an entire clip to kill one guy with 33% of his armor left because 90% of my shots are missing due to this horrible aiming. It would be easy to do. Now let me ask - how easy is it to fix the price of the proto suit? Took 6+ months. Doom 'n' Gloom. CCP track record shows heavies are pretty much ****** for half a year.
I dont know how long it will take to make the movements smooth but to bring back the old aiming system and iron sight shouldnt be that big of a deal.
They changed the sp system relatively quickly |
